New York Alliance of Housing

Making New York a better home

Our Mission at NY-AH

Over the past four years, New York City’s affordable housing crisis has reached an all-time high. After plummeting at the start of the pandemic, the median asking rent in New York City has now increased by more than 200%, reaching its peak in 2023. As it stands, the median household income for NYC residents is simply not high enough to meet this range. While there are current housing policies in place such as the Zoning for Quality and Affordability initiative and the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019, there is still a major deficit in the availability of affordable housing in this city. These housing policies can have a largely negative impact on developers, such as by increasing construction costs and reducing profit margins. There is a constant debate between developers and proponents of affordable housing, their primary concern being to balance the need for increased affordable housing with the need for developers to generate profit. This balance is what the New York Alliance of Housing hopes to achieve. Our organization aims to provide a platform on which local developers can work to generate affordable housing in certain targeted regions of New York City.
